Thanks so much for your two posts. You are right on the money when you mentioned becoming "pro-active". This was one of the points that came up during the panel discussion on African American philanthropy on Feb. 11th. In future posts, I will add some research information and present vehicles that people can start with to gain a philanthropic mindset. I look forward to us developing great dialogue, and to hearing more of your ideas. Keep posting!

We need to take a proactive approach to fundraising instead of a reactive approach.Fundraising for Scholarships are proactive because we know people are going to need them the following year. In that area we have done well. Other than that we need something to happen then we raise money. There needs to be more education on what kind of funds can be established and how they are utilized. For example most of us have heard about the "Building Fund" through are Churches. However, these are usually just accounts housed at the banks not inside Foundations.
